So, it's not long to go until the auction launches, just 5 hours.

It's been a hectic few weeks here, and we couldn't have done it without the amazing people who gave their time, skills and resources to donate item(s) to the auction. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine we would have 80 lots, and it means a huge amount to us that you have supported us in this way.

Whilst the auction runs, 153 families will loose a baby at birth or shortly after. The UK's figures are not falling as quickly as other high-income countries, and the reason for that is largely down to the preventable deaths figure. It is sad but true, that many deaths are not preventable, however, far too large a percentage of the 17 deaths a day is down to poor care. We need massive investment in maternal and neonatal care and a significant rise in staffing, from midwives to consultants and all other support staff. We were very impressed with the care that we received, but many are not so lucky. And let's be honest, it shouldn't be down to luck.

As well as supporting bereaved families, and campaigning for better care, Sands funds research into stillbirths and neonatal deaths, in order to reduce these sad and unnecessarily high statistics.

You are all now part of the amazing work that Sands do. Your time spent knitting, baking, sewing and bidding could not have been better spent.

Thank you again for you generosity. Enjoy the auction!
